The ship you see in the background is a full size replica of a Spanish Galleon.  This should give you an idea of the size of the mall this guys works in.

Earl is standing directly in front of a large pool where there are daily shows put on by three dolphins, two seals and their trainers. He is standing on a bridge that spans a water eay.  One water way contains three submarines that transport tourists on underwater adventures.  That's how HUGE this place is.

Earl originally was a Marine Engineer in the Canadian Navy. He got out of the Navy with a pension and still wanted to work so he wrote off his 4th class Stationary Engineer certificate and started working at the largest mall in the world. That is at the time this interview was conducted it was the largest. People come from miles around the country side to shop at the mall as it is one stop shopping for everyone. Absolutely everything is there. Its quite the mall. They even have tour groups fly in from New York City just to shop here!

Earl initially got into being a Marine Engineer and maintained it into Stationary Engineering because he likes to know how things tick and is good at keeping things ticking. He likes the hands on stuff and the confidence that comes with that kind of working environment. He has a great comfort level with it as it has a natural feel to him.

As Earl conducted me around the mall on his rounds it seem there was no end to what had to be done in this monstrous place. "A guy can put on a lot of mileage on his feet in a day around here." he says. He doesn't seem to mind too much about it though. From what I saw, he rather enjoys it and keeps himself rather busy. "The day goes faster that way.", he says. He is an energetic fella and likes the fast pace of his work place. He also likes some of the side benefits of working in such a large mall. On his rounds we caught a glimpse of quite a number of very pleasant looking ladies. We agreed, they are some of the better things in life. It keeps a guy motivated to some extent. When things get boring I suppose a guy can always look up from what he is doing and get an eye full then, get back to it.

Earl also likes the four days on four days off then, four nights on and four days off cycle of shift work at the mall. It gives him lots of time off to work on his acreage, doing renovations to his home, working on his car and riding his neighbor's horses. Earl lives outside the city as he likes the peace and quiet of the country side.
